Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM) Prototypes

Excess material is removed from the LOM rapid prototype to reveal the physical "wood like" model of the object.PERIDOT also creates rapid prototypes using LOM, in which cross sections are cut from paper or other material using a CO2 laser. Each new layer of paper is bonded to the previous layer using a heated roller, which melts an adhesive coating on the back side of the paper. At the end of the LOM process, the excess material is removed to reveal the physical "wood like" model of the object during a process called "de-cubing".

Although the finish, accuracy and stability of paper objects are not as good as cutting edge materials such as BLUESTONE™, LOM is still a viable option in many cases because of the lower material costs. LOM is especially suitable for larger models, foundry patterns, and vacuum-form tooling.

As a flexible engineering service bureau, PERIDOT offers unique customer service and new and creative ideas. We can also provide secondary operations on your RP model such as light machining, assembly or incorporating last minute design changes.
